Board the train these days and once you’re underway
all doors stay locked. If you’re on, you’re on.
There’s no falling out, but then there’s no getting off.
My train’s not like that. It’s not one of those
with modern carriages. It's called a ‘slam door’ train.
You can open the doors yourself - from the inside.
They say they’re not as
safe. What’s 'safe' is relative. Is a car safer than
a motorbike? Depends how hard it hits you.
I saw an old train a few days ago. Really old. There
was a billow of steam flowing from its nose. It ran
non-stop through the station. Don’t know how much the
passengers could see for all the clouds of recycled
tear-vapour in their eyes.
